Grissom Elementary

Welcome to Grissom Memorial Elementary School, home of the Astros!

At Grissom, we proudly serve approximately 450 students from pre-kindergarten through 5th grade. We hold high expectations for all students and staff with a goal of creating a welcoming, engaging environment that promotes learning and fosters an atmosphere of respect for everyone who walks through our doors.

Once inside, you will quickly notice that the faculty and staff operate as a cohesive team with all members working together to give our students and families the best experience possible. We offer a wide range of programs in all our preschool, special education and general education classrooms, including a CKLA reading curriculum based on the science of reading that is taking our students to new heights with their reading and language comprehension. Project Lead The Way instruction takes place in all our classrooms and provides students hands-on learning in the critical areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

In addition, we have an in-school Family Navigator who works closely with all our teachers to identify the needs of each individual student. He has direct connections to many agencies and resources around the community that can help meet those needs, enabling the student to better succeed in the classroom. We want to do everything we can to set up our students for success, which also includes members of our support team reaching out to offer assistance to families when needed.

I am so thankful for the outstanding community partners who work with our students and families, including Glad Tidings Church, Meridian Health Services, Center Stone Counseling and Ball State University. The good people at all these organizations work tirelessly to provide support to our students and their families. Our partnerships help to mold students into positive, productive members of society - people we are proud to call Astros.

Grissom is a special school where exciting things are happening, and I feel fortunate to be part of the team.
